There is an utterly hilarious pseudo-flamewar going on between Warren Ellis and Joss Whedon in the comments section of this post on Warren's site.
Jossfans and Warrenfans, have at it. You'll laugh yourselves sick.

You know, I never can answer the Oracle's questions. There's never an easy answer. Maybe it's because I don't have overall favourites - never a best in show, just the best of each catagory-type-time-genre ...

cheers,

Haha!

MY NAME NOT YOURS MINE MINE MINE
cough.
Astronomical X-Cash is a very popular book, and I like that Johnny has enough money now for things like hair products and food.
And it’s a Sailor Moon suit, you bastard. Because I hear Brandon Routh is into that. And possibly Nathan Fillion.
The last time I was at San Diego, I saw a porn star being bitched out by a midget pimp. Who was not a pimp of midgets, but a midget who was also a pimp.
Your tv show FIREFOX should have had midget pimps in it.
Awesome.

Date: 2006-02-17 02:32 am (UTC)I need to learn more about photography & sculpture to make a valid comment.
And since I consider music art (because it is) - I have far, far too many favorites to name... I'll throw out names like Ray Davies, Charlie Terrell, Randy Jackson, Ric Ocasek, Mark O'connor and Joe Jackson, just to see the reaction.
And since Drama is an art... Oh, William H Macy, or... nothing comes to mind.

Date: 2006-02-17 03:44 am (UTC)Ray Davies: I've never been a huge Kinks fan but I can recognize the influence the guy has had on music.
Charlie Terrell: I don't know that name at all. Who he?
Ric Ocasek: I loved and love the Cars. And he married Paulina Porizkova. I mean, damn.
Mark O'Connor: Not bad but my violin/fiddle tastes tend to run more towards Mark Wood, Steve Kindler, Karen Briggs, and Vanessa-Mae.
Joe Jackson: I have always liked what stuff of his I've heard, but I haven't heard large amounts of it.
cheers,
Phil

Date: 2006-02-17 04:09 am (UTC)Charlie Terrell is a songwriter/playwright - Last i heard, his play (the Jesus Pill) was doing well at some little theatre in Hollywood. But his debut album, when the band was simply "Terrell" is amongst the most powerful albums I've ever heard. It hard to decribe, It not really "Southern Rock" or even, "ountry metal" - Its just acoustic based hard rock, with tons of bad attitude. If you can find "On the wings of Dirty angels" by Terrell... BUY IT - ('course I can burn it for you)
Mark O'Connor is amazing fiddle player, but it was his guitar work that blew me away. Check out "Strength in Numbers" album, the telluride sessions. Its Mark O'Connor, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Edgar Meyer... the album is 100% acoustic, stringed instuments, and no vocals. While it has strong bluegrass roots, the song "Slopes" is a work of art! I saw them on Auston City Limits one night years ago... I didnt rest until I had the album.
And Joe Jackson, Check out his live album, its from 4 tours with four bands, and about every other song you'll say, "I didn't know he wrote this" - And he remakes everysong for his live shows. "Steppin' Out" wasa Pop piece of crap I loathed. The live version is simply amazing, and all he does is change the tempo.
If I have time, I'll burn you a CD with some of all of this stuff.
