There is an utterly hilarious pseudo-flamewar going on between Warren Ellis and Joss Whedon in the comments section of this post on Warren's site.

Jossfans and Warrenfans, have at it. You'll laugh yourselves sick.

Are you kidding? This is the most writing I’ve done in months.

Heh.

You know, I never can answer the Oracle's questions. There's never an easy answer. Maybe it's because I don't have overall favourites - never a best in show, just the best of each catagory-type-time-genre ...

Heh. You weren't the intended audience for this -- being one of Warren's cronies AND a Firefly fan, I knew you already would have seen it. :)

cheers,
Phil

Laugh. Cronie? Well either way I read it and giggled ;)

Well, he actually knows who you are and responds to you and whatnot. And you show up fairly regularly on his FlickrMosaics and so on. "Crony" was the first word I came up with. "Filthy Assistant" might be better. Heh.

cheers,
Phil

I have noticed the more than once flickerings. I was amused.

You've inspired me to make a new icon :)

Norman Rockwall. Waterhouse. Dominique Appia. Marc Chagall. Edvard Munch.

I know, those are all so different from each other.

Who cares if they're different? Different is interesting. Different is cool. :)

That's spectacularly giggle-worthy. Thank you.

Who's Waterhouse? Olivia's work I know and appreciate.

Glad the link was good for a laugh.

J W Waterhouse.

Oooh, and I love Maxfield Parrish. And M. C. Escher.

Oo, Parrish and Escher. Both excellent choices.

And I *do* know Waterhouse, I just didn't know that Waterhouse was Waterhouse. If you follow me. "Lady of Shalott" is one of my favorite fine art pieces.

cheers,
Phil

Heh. I'll share one of the things I overheard Joss say at a party, just because it is wisdom that needs to be spread about:

Joss: When two women kiss, everyone's a winner.

Man, if THAT isn't the truth. :)

When did you meet him? I presume before the Firefly craze because a) you wouldn't have been able to get close enough to him to hear him say it, otherwise and b) because I know you were a late arrival to Fireflyfandom too.

cheers,
Phil

Haha!

Well, speaking as an official Planetary Browncoat, that was great!

When Cassaday masturbates at night in that cell under Joe Quesada’s house HE STILL SAYS
MY NAME NOT YOURS MINE MINE MINE

cough.

Astronomical X-Cash is a very popular book, and I like that Johnny has enough money now for things like hair products and food.

And it’s a Sailor Moon suit, you bastard. Because I hear Brandon Routh is into that. And possibly Nathan Fillion.

The last time I was at San Diego, I saw a porn star being bitched out by a midget pimp. Who was not a pimp of midgets, but a midget who was also a pimp.

Your tv show FIREFOX should have had midget pimps in it.

Awesome.

Favorite artist, either Rockwell, (I assume you saw the 4-5 prints) or Alvar (the painting over my sofa) - Alvar is one I really like, and having known him personally (the litho was a gift) is really cool.

I need to learn more about photography & sculpture to make a valid comment.

And since I consider music art (because it is) - I have far, far too many favorites to name... I'll throw out names like Ray Davies, Charlie Terrell, Randy Jackson, Ric Ocasek, Mark O'connor and Joe Jackson, just to see the reaction.

And since Drama is an art... Oh, William H Macy, or... nothing comes to mind.

Okay, I've heard you and Philip mentioning Randy Jackson numerous times now. Who is the guy and what's he play?

Ray Davies: I've never been a huge Kinks fan but I can recognize the influence the guy has had on music.

Charlie Terrell: I don't know that name at all. Who he?

Ric Ocasek: I loved and love the Cars. And he married Paulina Porizkova. I mean, damn.

Mark O'Connor: Not bad but my violin/fiddle tastes tend to run more towards Mark Wood, Steve Kindler, Karen Briggs, and Vanessa-Mae.

Joe Jackson: I have always liked what stuff of his I've heard, but I haven't heard large amounts of it.

cheers,
Phil

Randy Jackson (NOT the american idol judge) was the brains behind Zebra. Phillip & I went to see him a couple weeks ago... I have the recoding of the show, I'll burn a copy for you. He basically walked onstage with a 12-string and a mic. And blew me away! I can get you some old out of print Zeba stuff too. He's a brilliant guitarist, but has an amazing voice.

Charlie Terrell is a songwriter/playwright - Last i heard, his play (the Jesus Pill) was doing well at some little theatre in Hollywood. But his debut album, when the band was simply "Terrell" is amongst the most powerful albums I've ever heard. It hard to decribe, It not really "Southern Rock" or even, "ountry metal" - Its just acoustic based hard rock, with tons of bad attitude. If you can find "On the wings of Dirty angels" by Terrell... BUY IT - ('course I can burn it for you)

Mark O'Connor is amazing fiddle player, but it was his guitar work that blew me away. Check out "Strength in Numbers" album, the telluride sessions. Its Mark O'Connor, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Edgar Meyer... the album is 100% acoustic, stringed instuments, and no vocals. While it has strong bluegrass roots, the song "Slopes" is a work of art! I saw them on Auston City Limits one night years ago... I didnt rest until I had the album.

And Joe Jackson, Check out his live album, its from 4 tours with four bands, and about every other song you'll say, "I didn't know he wrote this" - And he remakes everysong for his live shows. "Steppin' Out" wasa Pop piece of crap I loathed. The live version is simply amazing, and all he does is change the tempo.

If I have time, I'll burn you a CD with some of all of this stuff.
