Stolen from quite a number of people on my friends list.

Here's the deal. Shuffle your mp3s and write a lyric from each of the first 25 songs that come up. Post it in your journal and see who can name that tune (without cheating and googling the lyrics!).

I'll post the answers (and the people who guessed 'em) in a day or two.

Disclaimer: Winamp picked some tough ones. I have tried to compensate for some of those by providing several lines' worth of lyrics.

1. For a memory he was bound
For his ship has run aground
Light a torch for one who tried and failed to cross the Great Divide

2. I still recall the taste of your tears
Echoing your voice just like the ringing in my ears
My favorite dreams of you still wash ashore
Scraping through my head till I don't want to sleep anymore

3. We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance, well, they're no friends of mine

4. Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
Had to listen, had no choice

5. I be cruisin' down the highway, just sportin' in the fly way
Turn it up a notch and de sound hits dem
Creepin through traffic with the sunroof open
to ventilate the scent from the spliff we smokin'

6. False sense of pride, satisfies
There's no reason for suicide
Choose your mind and hope to find
Find the meaning of existence

7. I can't tell you baby what went wrong
Can't make you feel what you felt so long ago
I'll let it show
I can't give you back what's been hurt
Heartaches come and go and all that's left are the words
I can't let go

8. When the sun says good night to the mountain
I am dreaming of the sun
Say good night

9. Barking of machinegun fire does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you wear, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see, the slaughter never ends

10. If all you told was turned to gold,
If all you dreamed were new,
Imagine sky high above
In Caribbean blue

11. Under a big old sky
Out in a field of green
There's gotta be something
Left for us to believe

12. I throw my tape on and I watch ya
Three seconds later, I got ya
Shakin' your head, dancin' instead of sittin'
The rhymes kick, the beat's hittin' you
Just like a home run, slammin' like a slam dunk

13. When in the springtime of the year
When the trees are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair

14. Into the morning sun
Down his chosen road he rides to save the world
Cross of crimson, robe of white
Sworn to the quest for the rest of his life

15. Last temptation
Touch me before you close your eyes
Die a martyr to your principles
'Cause you're the only god who's visible tonight

16. Stare from the darkness
Hear the silence call?
Devise divisions, delay decisions,
Watch the hours crawl and...
Let nothing bleed into nothing
and do nothing?

17. Yo sexy ladies want par with us
In a the car with us them nah war with us
In a the club them want flex with us
To get next to us them cah vex with us
From the day me born jah ignite me flame
Gal a call me name and it is me fame

18. I'm higher when I'm dancing in the moonlight
I am bound to walk the night
Dive into a wishing well
Where hopes and dreams can break the spell
A place where I can fly towards the sun
Free, free me

19. So this is dreamtime, and all is quiet
So this is dreamtime, and all is night
I've never been held by the hand of God
Who's rocking my cradle if he is not?

20. Hold your fire -- keep it burning bright
Hold the flame till the dream ignites
A spirit with a vision
Is a dream with a mission

21. Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence

22. Welcome to our fortress tall, take some time to show you around
Impossible to break these walls for you see the steel is much too strong
Computer banks to rule the world, instruments to sight the stars

23. Standing in line, marking time, waiting for the welfare dime
'Cause they can't buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by, as he catches the poor old ladies' eyes
Just for fun he says, "Get a job"

24. Then, I'm going to have to write a chorus
We're going to need to have a chorus
And this would seem to be as good as any other place to sing it till I'm blue in the face

25. Futures made of virtual insanity
Now always seem to be governed by this love we have
For useless, twisting, our new technology
Oh, now there is no sound, for we all live underground

Some of these were pretty freakin' tough if you're not into prog metal or prog rock, but I imagine the Ytsejammers reading can come up with at least a few of 'em. :)

Bruce Hornsby.

I suck at these because I don't know the names of songs. It's just not somehting I pay attention to. I know a good number of the artists though.

Yea, as soon as I saw that I remembered the name was wrong.

Of course, the first name I came up with was Peter Cetera...

I couldn't avoid them! I saw them at the bottom of the scroll!
I got Safety Dance, Solsbury Hill, The Way it Is, Return to Innocence. See, the easy ones.

I knew that #9 was Metallica, but couldn't remember the name.

The odd part was that one of the lyrics before Enigma's Return to Innocence reminded me of the song. So it was funny to actually see the lyrics show up a few lines later. It was like an utterly useless premonition!

*deep shame*

17. Sean Paul - Get Busy

What can I say, Get Busy is an awesome booty shaker! =D I would have gotten Safety Dance and Solsbury Hill if others hadn't gotten them first. ~_^ That is all I can say in my meager defense.

Then I shall put you down for three of em. :)

I saw the video for "Get Busy" on VH-1 and immediately sat bolt upright going "Who the hell IS this?" Love it.

does it need to be songs and artists too?? i can do a couple of the artists without the exact titles...

like #1, the last line makes me say it's Ice Age, but....haven't a clue on the track title....the chicken one was an instrumental, right? i even listened to that disc within the past couple of weeks, too....the vocalists still sounds like a cross between Chris Squire and Ozzy....

#4 I think it's Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel
#9 Metallica, Disposable Heroes
#16 Fates Warning, APSOG....part....ummm....two sections after murdered in munich which i think makes it 7 (or VII, if you insist), but i could be wrong
#19 Bruce Dickinson, i think the song is The Killing Floor, but as I grabbed Accident of Birth instead of The Chemical Wedding for my trip, i can't check it out....
#20 Rush, Mission
#23 Bruce Hornsby, the way it is
#24 King Crimson - happy with....and all the rest of the words too.....

Re: me try me try

From: [identity profile] dslartoo.livejournal.com
#1 was indeed Ice Age. Good job for even guessing that much. Nobody else besides [livejournal.com profile] kevinjdog had a clue.

Also correct on all the rest, including Bruce Dickinson, which you were the only one to get. :)

I'll fix up the "who got what" post when I get home and have high-speed access again.

I'm sure you have already posted the results, but I am backlogging entries from a couple of weeks and this is fun. So:

3. Safety Dance-Men Without Hats
4. Salisbury (sp) Hill-Peter Gabriel
5. I'll guess Cypress Hill?
9. Metallica?
10. Enya-Caribbean Blue
13. Kind of sounds like Sting-Fields of Gold
21. Enigma-Return to Innocence

I'll think about the others.
25. Jamiriquai-Virtual Insanity

Date: 2004-12-31 09:37 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dslartoo.livejournal.com
#5 is wrong (but a good guess, haha)
#13 is also incorrect.

The rest of them you have right. :)
