I just love it when a useful site I have been using for a long time gets eaten by a larger corporation, or decides to "rethink their business model", and -- suddenly -- TEH SUCK is everywhere, in large quantities.
Case in point: YouSendIt. I used to use this handy website to upload large files for friends, files that were too big to be sent via email. The files were available for seven days and a limited number of downloads, but the site provided a useful service.
Now, however, they are requiring you to "sign up" for their new "beta" service, have slapped a 50MB filesize limit on their free service (when it was formerly 1 GB), have created a new look and feel for the site, and -- this is the really great part -- have spent all this time and effort retooling their new beta service into something that DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL.
Having signed up for the new service, logged in, and browsed to the location of the file I want to send on my hard drive, I clicked on the "Send it" link. And nothing happened.
I clicked it again. Still nothing. And again. Nothing. No network activity whatsoever, no "browser busy" animated icon in the upper right to indicate activity.
Disabled my firewall (which CAN be a bit overzealous sometimes). Still nothing.
Tried Internet Explorer (*choke*) instead of Firefox. Nothing. Tried Mozilla. Nothing. Tried Opera. Nothing.
Yeah, I'm really keen to spread the word about this wonderful new YouSendIt, all right. Because, y'know, there's nothing quite like being forced to sign up for a new service on a retooled website sporting an ugly new interface that ultimately does not a goddamned thing.
