Because I'm in a snarky mood this morning, below is the latest stupid spam to hit my (work) mailbox, with commentary from me. Note that this is the entire text of the mail and not one word has been changed.

From: "U.S. Bank" [Danita_Krier@yahoo.co.uk]

That's funny, I would think an email from a "U.S. bank" would at least come from a U.S. email address, not a UK one.

Subject: Your account at U.S. Bank has been suspended.

Dear U.S. Bank account holder,

We regret to inform you, that we had to block your U.S. Bank account because we have been notified that your account may have been compromised by outside parties.

I have a U.S. Bank account? How odd. I wonder how this escaped my notice till now.

Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your account must always be under your control or those you designate at all times. We have noticed some activity related to your account that indicates that other parties may have access and or control of your information in your account.

"Our terms and conditions you agreed to state". Such a fine use of language.

The account "must be under my control", eh? I thought that was YOUR job.

These parties have in the past been involved with money laundering, illegal drugs, terrorism and various Federal Title 18 violations.

What kind of bank tells you your account has been broken into but sounds more worried about what the hackers used it for?

In order that you may access your account we must verify your identity by clicking on the link below.

What link? I don't see any link to click on, and there wasn't a graphic to click on. If you're going to try and pull this scam, you really ought to at least include the redirecting blind link.

Please be aware that until we can verify your identity no further access to your account will be allowed and we will have no other liability for your account or any transactions that may have occurred as a result of your failure to reactivate your account as instructed below.

Horrors! I can't use an account that I never knew I had! What EVER will I do?

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Oh, no, thank YOU for sending me such an important missive in the clear over an unencrypted channel! I can't be grateful enough. Couldn't you provide the actual account details next time so that those could be sent in the clear, too?

Before you reactivate your account, all payments have been frozen, and you will not be able to use your account in any way until we have verified your identity.

Frozen payments, eh? I wonder what these payments were for. I haven't actually bought anything in the past month, save groceries at the local store.

All spammers must die.
