I do not ordinarily use this journal specifically to plead for help, but in this case I am making an exception.

[livejournal.com profile] kittybecca, her two daughters, and [livejournal.com profile] eddyneko and [livejournal.com profile] thenagual (who were living with Becca and her kids) lost everything they owned but the clothes on their backs when their house burned to the ground last night. Because she is a single mother who was trying to make ends meet, she had no renters' insurance, and so she is now faced with the task of rebuilding from the ground up.

Their very good friend Germaine, aka [livejournal.com profile] relevantpink, has set up a page with the relevant info, including links to a Paypal donation page for those of you who want to help out.

I don't know any of the people involved, but Becca is very special to [livejournal.com profile] relevantpink and [livejournal.com profile] arkhamrefugee, two people whose judgement of other people is absolutely first-rate, so she must be really something. Please go and donate something if you can -- make a cash donation through Paypal or send some of the needed clothes and food items to the address listed.

[edit: there are now multiple mirrors of the "Help Becca Out" page. Here they are]:

Currently playing: Vanden Plas -- Beyond Daylight. With Dream Theater on a fast decline these days, Vanden Plas is one of the best current progressive metal bands around.

It's impossible to comprehend their loss! I remember when my hard drive went tits-up and how much I felt I'd lost, and it was only my friggin' computer.

I get paid tomorrow. You can count on a (albeit small) donation from me. I hope others contribute, too. While money will never bring back their cherished personal items, I hope their spirit is renewed in the slightest because of the generosity of others.

From what I have heard, the response has been pretty good so far. I know I've seen the fire mentioned at least ten times on my friends page already. One hopes there will be a decent percentage of stuff coming in for them.

Thanks for your own help. I'm sure she'll appreciate it!

cheers,
Phil

It's all over the web now and has been pimped by people with huge friends-lists, to the extent that there was a huge flame war in [livejournal.com profile] friend_whoring (all the entries have now been deleted) regarding whether it was a hoax.
